Panerai in Genève

Luxury Swiss watchmaker Panerai proudly unveiled its new collection of watches at the Salon International de la Haure Horlogerie Genève, a major watch industry show that showcases only top-of-the-line names that embody both beauty and functionality. Here is a sneak peek at Panerai’s impressive collection.

Lo Scienziato

This collection, where “scienziato” translates to scientist, is dedicated to the Tuscan genius Galileo Galilei, who, with his discoveries, laid the foundations for the development of mechanical timepieces. The most recent model of this distinguished series is the new Lo Scienziato – Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio, indeed an item for the true collector’s bounty, as this model only has 150 pieces of it made. This model’s defining feature is its lightness, considering its size and the number of features it has.

Radiomir

Those looking for more creative Panerai designs + technical features might want to give the Radiomir 1940 collection which introduces four new models. For instance, the Radiomir 1940 3 DAYS GMT AUTOMATIC ACCIAIO – 45mm & Radiomir 1940 3 DAYS GMT POWER RESERVE AUTOMATIC ACCIAIO – 45mm watches show the date, the GMT function with a central hand which indicates the time in a second time zone, am/pm indication (relative to home time) and indicates remaining power reserve.

Setting the watch has also become extremely simply and precise: new features stop the balance and zeroes the seconds hand as soon as the winding crown is pulled out, and also enables the local time hand to be adjusted forward and backward in jumps of one hour at a time without stopping the minute hand or interfering with the running of the watch while automatically adjusting the date. The design of the Radiomir 1940 case is faithfully inspired by the historic examples created by Panerai for the commandos of the Italian Navy in around 1940.

Luminor

A new Luminor 8 Days Set – available in only 500 examples – contains two watches inspired by models created in the pre-Vendôme era, that is, that stage in the history of the brand running from 1993, the year of the first collection made for the public, and 1997, the year in which Panerai was acquired by Vendôme.

Panerai made a few small series of watches commissioned by Sylvester Stallone. The new Luminor 8 Days Set takes two models originally created forthe American actor: a Luminor Black Seal, here presented for the first time in a left-handed version, and a Luminor Daylight with an original, extremely rare white dial with blue markers and numerals.
