Snap! Capture Filipino-Chinese ties in this photography contest

From mooncakes in our fridge to lucky fortune cats on our desks, to fireworks and dragon dances on certain times of the year, there’s no denying that Chinese culture has been inculcated to Filipino culture. No one knows this better than the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

FFCCCII Photo Contest Key Visual

To celebrate the enduring ties of the Filipino and Chinese, the Federation, in partnership with the Camera Club of the Philippines (CCP), invites both amateur and professional photographers above the age of 18 to join an online photography contest that captures the Filipino-Chinese spirit that can light up a string of the biggest, roundest, reddest, most festive Chinese lanterns. The competition is scheduled to run from Aug. to Oct. 2, 2016,

The contest has the concept of “connected community” at its heart, borrowing the Chinese concept of guan xi, loosely defined as the relationship of one party to another with obligation built overtime, or simply, reciprocity. “Through this competition, we encourage the participants to look beyond the obvious Chinese elements, look past the connections made. Let us examine why Filipino-Chinese ties stood the test of time. What makes it true and lasting?” says FFCCCII president Angel Ngu.

“Over and above the technical aspects of each photo entry, what makes the competition a real challenge is how one can comb through the interwoven Filipino-Chinese culture, traditional and new, to produce incredible works of art,” adds CCP president Philip Clayton Yu.
