Curatorial Intensive comes to Manila

Responsible for managing exhibits and interpreting contemporary art, curators are key players in the development of artistic and cultural heritage. But art is dynamic, and as such, curators need to continually learn new skills to keep up with the demands of this ever-changing discipline.

Knowing this, the Independent Curators International (ICI) is inviting Filipino curators to join the Curatorial Intensive in Manila, a week-long training program designed to help curators from all over the world develop their craft and forge international networks. A collaborative effort of the ICI, the National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Curatorial Intensive in Manila is scheduled to take place from Nov. 15 to 21.

The event has already gained the support of prominent art patron Sen. Loren Legarda, who describes the professional training program as an opportunity “to support the arts and culture sector” of the country.

The ICI will select 12-14 curators with at least three years worth of curatorial experience to participate in the event. If you want to be a part of the lucky dozen, be sure to submit a 500-word description of an exhibition idea, a 500-word letter of intent, a 300-word description of a previous curatorial project and a 250-word biography by Aug. 26, 2016. All participating Filipino curators are exempted from paying the USD 1,900 program fee.
