Revisiting a classic: Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Frosted Gold

Nothing beats a classic, and only the most exquisite results can be expected when new life is breathed into one.

Timepiece Audemars Piguet celebrates the 40th anniversary of its iconic Royal Oak watch for women. This year, the beloved watch model is revisited and gets a modern makeover by Florentine jewelery designer Carolina Bucci to create the new Royal Oak Frosted Gold.

The new design honors the style and character of the female designers who have contributed to the Royal Oak legacy — from Jacqueline Dimier who reinterpreted Gérald Genta’s initial 1972 model and imagined the first Royal Oak for women in 1976, to Carolina Bucci today.

The Royal Oak Frosted gold timepieces’ signature finish was achieved by beating the gold with a diamond tipped tool, creating tiny indentations on the surface that give a sparkling effect similar to that of precious stones — a process which comes from a surface treatment process rooted in an ancient gold hammering technique and took months to master in a modern artisan’s workshop.

Now perfected, the finished products glows with a dainty, dusty diamond finish. The reinvention of a classic is available in white gold and pink gold, both versions showcasing the watch’s well-known shimmering sparkle.

Audemars Piguet is located on the first level of Greenbelt 5, Makati.
