Incredible India, delectable dishes

This September, India lifts the veil that protects its many alluring mysteries by sharing a big part of what makes this land so incredible — its rich culinary treasures!

Sofitel Philippine Plaza brings India and the Philippines together in this edition of the hotel’s latest edition of its beloved culinary event, Flavors of the World.

In partnership with the Embassy of India in Manila, the week-long celebration will also be held in honor of India’s 70th year of independence.

From Sept. 11 to 17, guests that dine at Spiral, Sofitel’s multi-awarded dining destination, will be transported to India. Artist Aditi Ahuja is set to re-decorate the restaurant, bringing to life the vibrance and majesty of Indian design and color palettes, while Indian Master Chef Halim Ali Khan will provide the main attractions of this gastronomic event.

Originally from Odisha in Eastern India, Chef Halim has been impressing Sofitel’s guests with his take on specialties from North and South India since 2012.

The chef’s versions of well-loved Indian dishes like Palak Paneer, Shrimp Tandoori and Chicken Tikka, Gosht Rogan Josh (an aromatic lamb dish), Gajar Halwa (sweet carrot pudding), Aloo Papdi Chaat (crisp fried dough wafers served with boiled chick peas and tamarind chutney), Sev Puri (a traditional Indian snack composed of diced potatoes, onions and three types of chutneys) and so much more await the adventurous diner.

Best of all, Sofitel lets guests bring home something much more than memories of this unique dining experience. Manila’s gourmands can bring the flavors of India to their own homes thanks to a special Indian cooking class scheduled on Sept. 12 headed by Chef Halim himself.

An exclusive Chef’s Table dinner on Sept. 14 has also been arranged for those wishing to elevate their appreciation of Indian flavors. A three-course menu featuring a Kebab Platter, an Indian Thali platter with dal, paneer, chicken, lamb and chapatti, and Gajar Ka Alwa can be enjoyed by a select few.
