“This concept store is three times bigger than our first Original Penguin store here at Powerplant,” says Eric Lee, who, together with wife Cheryl, took a chance on the comebacking American brand by bringing it to the Philippines a little over a decade ago. “As a concept store, it appeals to several niche markets. The beddings and linen in our home section are sure to attract women, which is good because we want to appeal to more ladies.”
With this development, Original Penguin has also become the first international fashion brand in the country to hold a full-service barbershop inside two of its retail stores.
Along with its wide array of classic apparel for men, women and children, the new store at Powerplant Mall carries the brand’s latest Spring collection dubbed as “Mixtape.”

Operated by barbers trained by Felipe and Son, it offers classic cuts and grooming services that cater to the needs of the modern gentlemen, making it a perfect bonding place for fathers and sons.
Just like their initial experience at their SM Mall of Asia branch, the Lee couple sees the barber shop at their Powerplant outlet becoming a hit among men. Since it’s located in a more obscure area of the store, House of Handsome offers men and their sons a semblance of privacy without intimidating the ladies.
“While the women are shopping, for instance, the men and their sons are quietly having their grooming time,” says Cheryl. “This development elevates the shopping and bonding experience here at Original Penguin to a different level. It also elevates the brand to a lifestyle concept.”
