8 binge-worthy originals coming to Netflix PH this year

Like it or not, streaming has become an integral part of modern entertainment, and few media outlets do streaming as well as Netflix. The media giant has produced some of the best original series and movies of the recent years, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Here are some of their upcoming originals that are worth bunkering down a couple hours at a time for:

Explained (May 23) – This addition to the list of streamable docu-series is a collaborative effort between Netflix and Vox. It aims to explain a wide range of socio-cultural, economic phenomena, from the rise of cryptocurrency to the steadily increasing wealth gap to the world of K-Pop.

The Toys That Made Us season 2 (May 25)  The second season of this illuminating docu-series will continue to explore the history of iconic toy franchises, as well as forgotten playthings.

The Break with Michelle Wolf (May 27) – The savagely hilarious Michelle Wolf will make fun of everything and everyone in this new topical show with sketches, live comedies and in-studio guests. Part of a new format of originals that Netflix has recently started exploring, The Break with Michelle Wolf episodes will be released every Sunday starting May 27.

Sense8 (June 8) – The cancellation of this much-loved series caused such a stir online that the streaming giant decided to release a special series finale to give fans some closure.

Luke Cage season 2 (June 22) – The second season of this popular Marvel/Netflix show will follow the super-powered titular character after he clears his name and becomes a celebrity on the Harlem streets. A new villain surfaces in Harlem, one that can take on Luke and his unbreakable skin.

GLOW season 2 (June 29) – Pop culture’s obsession with everything ’80s continues with the second season of the Netflix hit about female wrestling. The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling late-night cable show will finally be launched, which means that Alison Brie’s Ruth and Betty Gilpin’s Debbie will be stepping up their game.

The Innocents (Aug. 24) – Netflix is tapping into everyone’s love for super-powered teens and young love with this story of two star-crossed lovers who run away from home to start a new life together. Complicating this already messy plan is the fact June (Sorcha Groundsell) is a shape-shifter.

Daredevil season 3 (TBA, 2018) – The story of the Man Without Fear picks up after The Defenders, the ending of which implies that Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) next adventure will be based on the comic’s “Born Again” story arc by Frank Miller. Expect a season with more drama and higher stakes as Daredevil’s greatest foe sets out for Daredevil’s blood in the worst possible ways.
