Game of Thrones, Season 8
After seven seasons and 73 episodes, we’ll finally know who will get to sit on the “Iron Throne” and rule over the seven kingdoms of Westeros in Game of Thrones. A ton of questions and theories were raised by fans during season seven’s finale, which is why there’s a lot to unpack in season eight—such as Jon Snow’s real identity to where Jaime Lannister is headed next (to name a few). Indeed, there’s a lot to digest as well, as the final season of this seven-year-old series unfolds. The clincher: the final season only has six episodes! But not to fear since a GOT prequel is also rumored to be in the works!
Avatar: The Last Airbender
In 2010, M. Night Shyamalan’s movie adaptation of Avatar titled The Last Airbender debuted on the big screen (and it wasn’t exactly what fans had in mind). The widely panned film earned the ire of fans of the beloved original. But come 2019, Netflix is making a live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Thanks to original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar fans are hopeful that the story and its characters will finally live up to the anime series. Shining some light on other elements in this version (such as character development and emphasis on the tale’s core on imperialism and genocide) could be a good start!
Lord of The Rings
Twenty-three years, six movies and 21 Oscars later, an all-new Lord of The Rings TV series is set to take you back to Middle Earth. The series adaptation will be a prequel to the LOTR films focusing on young Aragon. Given that the character is already 87 years old at the beginning of The Fellowship of The Ring, Aragon’s childhood is anticipated to be fully utilized in this brand-new series. While the rest of the details are still kept under wraps, the LOTR adaptation is said to be the most expensive TV series to ever be produced! With GOT finally coming to an end, do you think this is the next big break for Amazon?
Big Little Lies, Season 2
After sweeping the 2017 Primetime Emmy’s, HBO has revealed that Big Little Lies will have its second season. And that’s the truth! More than the much memed on-set picture of Reese Witherspoon lobbing ice cream at Meryl Streep, season two will actually focus on the fatality of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Apart from Reese, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern will return to Monterey. Adding a layer of complication is Meryl’s character, who plays Celeste (Kidman’s) mother-in-law.
Brooklyn 99, Season 6
Terminated and revived in less than 24 hours because of its fanbase’s enormous online outcry, Brooklyn 99 comes back to life in a new network. After five seasons, Fox declared that Brooklyn 99 was done for. Good thing NBC immediately came to the rescue and announced that season six will, indeed, be happening. Picking up after Jack and Amy’s wedding, Rosa’s coming out to her parents and whether or not Holt had been named NYPD commissioner, the cult comedy series continues with its story about a dysfunctional Brooklyn police crew.
How Anna Delvey tricked New York’s party people
If you haven’t heard of Anna Delvey’s case until now, here’s the gist—her infamous story started in New York City. For months, she pretended to be a wealthy German heiress to con numerous members of high society and financial institutions, in order to fund her luxurious double life. The con artist notoriously stayed in a $400-hotel room per night, applied for million-dollar loans, dropped $100 tips like nothing and attended the most important parties of New York’s Soho district. If you want to know the whole story, Vanity Fair and New York Magazine have detailed pieces about it. Or you can just wait until Netflix makes an official announcement of its TV adaptation’s release. Thanks to Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, this exciting story of how Anna “got away with her million-dollar scam” will be available for all to watch next year.
