Filipino-owned brandy from Jerez judged the ‘world’s best’

Another iconic moment has been etched in the history of the global liquor industry, as Filipino-owned Fundador Supremo 18 redefines brandy standards by setting the bar high.

Fundador Supremo

Fundador Supremo 18 recently bested some of the world’s top brands to win the coveted “Best Brandy in the World 2019” from esteemed panelists of the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC).

This distinguished victory has proven that sherry casks do not only make the world’s best whiskies. Today, sherry casks also hold the secret to making the world’s best brandy—a feat now shared to the rest of the world by Fundador Supremo 18.

With sherry casks found and used only in southern Spain, Brandy de Jerez claims exclusivity over the unique taste of its brandy. Sherry is the English name of the town Jerez in the region of Andalusia in Spain.

Since Fundador Supremo Oloroso 18 is aged in very special oloroso sherry casks, the brandy easily stands out with its aromatic warm, round notes of dried fruit and roasted nuts combined with smooth, strong, intensive hints of vanilla, walnuts, and dried fruit, while notes of wood stand out and provide a very elegant and lingering finish.

This distinction for such an iconic Spanish treasure has only fortified the rich and much-deserved reputation of Brandy de Jerez as a bold, delicious choice of the world’s most discerning liquor enthusiasts.

With ninety-five percent of brandy in Spain categorized under Brandy de Jerez, it is undeniable that the love for brandy has grown beyond its borders to reach the other parts of Europe and Asia. Subscribed under the Denomination of Origin, Brandy de Jerez is produced exclusively in Jerez.

A taste inspired by royalty

In Spain’s oldest and largest brandy cellar, His Majesty King Fernando VII uttered the words that would forever mark the Fundador brand: “a golden crown for a golden liquid.”

Tucked in the picturesque sherry triangle in Spain composed of the districts of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Bodegas Fundador today has grown to become one of the most iconic cultural landmarks of Spain. Rich in history and carrying a tale that seamlessly weaves itself to the emblem of Spanish ancestry, the House of Fundador has kept and distilled one of Spain’s best-kept treasures for generations.

Visited by Spain’s royal family since the time of His Majesty King Felipe V, the House of Fundador proudly boasts of distinguished recognitions, including the privilege to use the Royal Coat of Arms on Fundador’s barrels. This same brandy, which grew to be the drink of choice by English and Spanish royalty, is the same fine liquid that characterizes the Fundador Supremo Sherry Cask Collection.

The collection, which is comprised of three unique expressions of Fundador Solera Gran Reserva brandy aged in 12-, 15-, and 18-year-old sherry casks, now presents us the opportunity to experience Spain’s golden liquid.

When one thinks of Spain, it’s impossible not to imagine its timeless architecture, colorful history and vast, sprawling vineyards that have become the emblems of this Iberian country. With the rich, colorful legacy of brandy’s growth intricately woven into the history of the country, Spain has truly redefined standards further by being the home of the world’s best brandy.
