It’s a question many concerned netizens have asked since the enhanced community quarantine took effect in Luzon earlier this month: How does one stay at home, if one is homeless?

Such is the tough reality that many of the underprivileged face in this time of crisis. As such, some institutions have opened their doors to offer sanctuary for the homeless in this time of need.

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (Benilde) and De La Salle University (DLSU), for instance, have opened their doors to the homeless people in the Manila since March 22. They can stay within select areas of the La Salle and Benilde campuses until the end of the quarantine period.

In line with these efforts, the De La Salle Brothers continue to call for (and accept) donations for their guests. Among the items they have requested for are new and unused clothes, water heaters, water dispensers, Vitamin C and diapers.

Aside from providing the homeless a temporary place to say, the universities have also garnered and repacked around 3,000 relief packages, which were distributed to urban communities in Metro Manila.

Relief items and PPEs used by guests during the repacking were provided by the Philippine Business for Social Progress. Benilde and the KALINGA team ensured that the relief packages were sanitized before shipping.
