Two years since his sold-out third solo exhibition, Gerrico Blanco returns with another widely anticipated solo effort. Dubbed as Dreamscapes, Blanco’s fourth solo exhibition is proving to be levels higher than his previous show, not just in the improved technical quality of his works, which now have a more polished realism, but also in the introduction of new techniques and themes.
Perhaps this is due to the fact that Blanco is now settled as a family man, observers surmise. It could also be because of the two years it took for him to prepare. Whatever the reason is, many are in agreement that Dreamscapes is by far his most compelling solo exhibition yet.
With 10 major works on canvas, Blanco continues to elaborate on childhood innocence through his version of dreamy surrealism, which uses diaphanous effects. There are also a few pieces which pay homage to iconic paintings such as “Flaming June” by Sir Frederic Leighton and the Dutch masters’ still life renditions of flowers.

Reminiscent of the works of one of the earliest Filipino masters Honorato Lozano, particularly “El Artista y su Esposa,” the two pieces, when taken as a diptych, show the artist and his wife juxtaposed almost in a yin-yang complementation.
Also marking a shift in the artist’s technical repertoire are the works “Fiddlers Night,” “Serene,” “Tranquil,” and “Moonlight Sonata,” which show his excellent grasp of chiaroscuro.
In Dreamscapes, we see the artist coming to his own and assured of his powers. It’s a peek of what is yet to come from Blanco.
Dreamscapes is presented by Art Lounge Manila. The exhibition is located at the Podium Mall, Ortigas Center. The show at the Podium Mall, Ortigas Center will run from until December 21.
