Converge co-founders Dennis Anthony and Maria Grace, CEO and president, respectively, won several awards recently, including Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines and Woman in Telecoms, bringing honor not only to themselves, but also to the telecom industry and the country.
For his efforts in bringing digital connectivity to more Filipinos across the country, Converge co-founder and CEO Dennis Anthony Uy was hailed as the Entrepreneur of the Year and Master Entrepreneur at the recent Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines (EOYP) 2022 Awards. The EOYP Awards is organized by EY Philippines through the SGV Foundation.
“It is my distinct honor to receive this top entrepreneur award. We believe, at Converge, that digital access is not a privilege of a few but a right of everyone. Thank you for recognizing our mission and what we’ve been doing to make this a reality for Filipinos,” said Uy during the awards banquet at the Grand Hyatt Manila.
With this recognition, the Converge chief will represent the Philippines at the World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, which will be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2023. The last and only time that a Filipino won this global award was in 2004 when Jollibee Foods Corporation President Tony Tan Caktiong was named World Entrepreneur of the Year.
Uy together with his wife, Converge president Maria Grace, founded the company in 2007 in his hometown in Angeles, Pampanga with a vision to provide world-class ICT services to Filipinos. Using the latest fiber optic technology, Converge started providing internet services in 2012 and eventually expanded from Central Luzon to Metro Manila.
In 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, the Pampanga start-up built its own national domestic fiber broadband network that linked Luzon to the major islands of the Visayas and Mindanao. Today, Converge has the biggest fiber to the home network in the Philippines with 6.7 million fiber ports deployed, serving 1.85 million customers.
In another positive development, the leading fiber broadband provider has once again brought honor to the country, as it won big in the World Communication Awards (WCA), bagging the Best Operator in an Emerging Market Award.
Likewise, Maria Grace won the Woman in Telecoms Award, besting four other women leaders from global companies like US-based Verizon Business Group and UK multinational Colt Technology Services. She is also the first Filipino woman to bring home this international telco award.
“We thank the World Communication Awards for hailing Converge as the Best Operator in an Emerging Market and for giving us such a prestigious award. I’m honored to receive this recognition which affirms our commitment of bringing high-speed, quality broadband connectivity to the majority of Filipinos,” said Dennis Anthony, who personally accepted the award in London with Maria Grace.
“But ultimately, I do believe that the success of Converge is a team effort. We focused on the huge demand for quality and reliable internet, we executed our plan very well and we are committed to deliver what we promise. In every little thing we do, we put our hearts and give our best,” Maria Grace said.
“This award means so much to me as one of the founders of Converge. Please allow me to share this award also with all the women who are striving to succeed, not just in the telecoms industry but also in other male-dominated fields,” she added.
