Nonagenarian artist and daughter showcase works in simultaneous art shows

Ed Uygongco’s “Where the Sky Meets the Sea” is a debut solo exhibition at Art Lounge Manila-Molito that showcases the artist’s deep love and respect for the natural world, while daughter Jo Uygongco’s paintings are not just beautiful representations of flowers. They also convey a sense of emotion and meaning.

It’s never too late to embark on anything, even mount a debut solo exhibition. Ed Uygongco, in partnership with Art Lounge Manila, is showcasing his first solo show at the ripe old age of 93. Dubbed as “Where the Sky Meets the Sea,” the collection centers on ethereal seascapes that demonstrate his attention to detail and masterful strokes.

Ed works are a reflection of his deep appreciation for the natural world, particularly the beauty of the sea. In this exhibition, we see a meeting of horizons where, for a lack of a better term, east meets west. Although some of the subjects of his works are either decidedly western or Asian, his execution is consistently Oriental and conveys a sense of peace and calm where everything is in perfect balance and harmony.

The exhibition is ongoing June 15t at Art Lounge Manila in Molito, Alabang. Visitors will be able to view a collection of 32 of Ed’s watercolor paintings, which showcase his signature style of seascapes. The artist’s paintings are not just an expression of his artistic talent but also a reflection of his deep love and respect for the sea.

Also exploring her works’ forms, colors and textures is Jo Uygongco whose artistic streak was influenced by her father, Ed. She is a prolific artist who has been experimenting with various mediums throughout her career.

Her latest exhibition, “Flowers Bloom,” features an experimental interpretation of flowers done with acrylic ink blooms on cold pressed papers. The resulting works are bold, vibrant and dynamic both in form and execution. She explores the beauty and visual cacophony of flowers through her unique style of painting.

The exhibition features a small collection of works that are displayed in Art Lounge Manila-Molito’s Mezzanine Level. The exhibition also runs from until June 15.
