How this Lee Min ‘Ho-peful’ took the selfie of a lifetime

Of the hundreds of fans gathered at the Mall of Asia Convention Center, one lucky gal got the chance to take a selfie with Korean superstar Lee Min-ho and it was, undoubtedly, the selfie of a lifetime!

There’s a saying that goes, “Dreams come true to those who truly want them.” It was, indeed, a dream come true for one lucky fan who had the opportunity to take a selfie with Korean superstar Lee Min-ho (who even took the picture himself) during his recent meet-and-greet in Manila for SMDC.

“I was so shocked!” Crystal Jane Dela Cruz told PeopleAsia editor-in-chief Joanne Rae Ramirez, as she was leaving the venue with her friends after the event. “I actually wasn’t expecting anything to happen on that day. I just wanted to see him so bad since it’s been seven years since he last visited the country.”

Lee Min-ho chose her message — the only one that had a photo (her grad photo) beside it – among the numerous Post-its from fans that were presented to him onstage.

“It’s been two weeks, but I’m still in a state of disbelief. Everything still feels surreal,” she later told The STAR through Ramirez. Crystal Jane, who recently her Medical Technology Licensure Exams (MTLE), also revealed that the Pachinko star was her inspiration while she was reviewing for the test.

The young lady, who has followed Lee Min-ho’s career since she was 11 years old, coughed up her savings to meet her idol. “I just wanted to tell him that he was part of my journey and one of the reasons why I did it!” she shared.

“One of the reasons why I idolize him is because of his dedication and his passion in everything he does. How he views life, his perspective, made me love him. He’s still the man whom I admired 14 years ago and he hasn’t changed a bit. No matter how big and successful he is right now, he never forgets to keep his feet on the ground,” she added.

Was it pure luck or was it strategy? Seems like it’s a combination of both. “I actually posted a message and my grad photo, because I wanted to let him know that I just passed my MTLE and I also thought that I needed to get his attention. I know sobrang daming nakadikit na sticky notes and he’ll not see everything, so I did something extra to get his attention.”

Lee Min-ho was in Manila last October as SMDC’s newest endorser. His visit coincided with SM’s 65th founding anniversary and the birth month of its founder Henry Sy Sr. By MA. ANGELICA DEMEGILLO
