Filipinos looking for alternative cures will be happy to know that a new treatment called photobiomodulation is now an option for those dealing with a myriad of health problems.

Canada-based engineer and naturopathic doctor Lew Lim is a leading figure in photobiomodulation, a medical treatment wherein light is used to jumpstart the body’s natural healing systems at a cellular level. When cells are exposed to the photons in red light, they are re-energized, thus accelerating the repair of both cells and tissues. This promotes integrated and systemic healing, making it perfect for addressing issues such as high blood pressure and cholesterol, asthma, diabetes, cancer, HIV and cardiovascular problems, as well as neurological problems like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Lew has been revolutionizing the field with his wearable intranasal light therapy (ILT) devices, which he started working on in the 1990s. The devices work by inserting a light tube into a nostril and allowing the veins and blood vessels to be exposed to the light 25 minutes at a time. “What we do is to find a way to deliver this light energy to the cells without injecting it or some other complicated way. It’s easy to get to the circulatory system through the nose. Also, with a longer wavelength, it can reach the brain directly,” Lew reveals.
Being portable and wearable, the devices are poised to change the face of medicine, as people would be able to treat health issues and diseases in the comfort of their own homes. “People wouldn’t need to keep going back to the clinic; they could treat it themselves,” Lew enthuses. “I’m trying to help people in the easiest way possible.”
His ILT devices are produced by Vielight, Inc., with the Filipino-owned Menlo Health and Innovations, Inc. as its official distributor in Asia. Vielight products have already made their presence known in major cities in the Philippines, as well as in countries like Taiwan, Vietnam and Japan.
