Every new year signals a change in luck and energy, according to the ancient Chinese tradition of Feng Shui. With the Chinese New Year approaching to usher in the Year of the Fire Rooster, what do the next 12 months have in store for you?
A small gathering of excited members of the media were given the much-coveted opportunity to meet with Princess Lim Fernandez, Feng Shui expert and co-founder of the Yin & Yang Shop of Harmony.
Princess recently uncovered the secrets of the year that lies ahead, specifically about matters of health, career, family, wealth and romance.
(Princess Lim Fernandez)
According to Princess, generally, The Year of the Fire Rooster is one that is “sweet and sour.” The first half of the year will present many opportunities and will be smooth sailing for most, but we can expect more volatility in the second half of the year. The kind of fire that also characterizes this year is one she likens to candlelight; while it can be small and easily extinguished if not properly cared for, a small flame can also be the start of a big, powerful fire when its potential is unleashed. Charmingly, the Year of the Fire Rooster also a great year for love as it will be ruled by the Romance Star. This is the year for those looking to get married and add a child to their lives!
While we believe that every year — and, ultimately, life — is still what you make of it, a few pointers from Princess on how to enhance the positivity (and shield you against the negativity) coming your way sure won’t hurt!

Read on to see her advice for each of the 12 Chinese Zodiac signs below.
Horse
Those born under the sign of the horse are considered to be the luckiest for 2017. Those deciding on career paths to follow may consider seeking out opportunities in the fields of entertainment and the media, as horses are born with an intrinsic ability to communicate effectively. The area of wealth is also looking pretty good for people this year, but be warned against overindulging!
Rat
Rats can expect a general improvement in their fortune in 2017. Specifically, they can look forward to more causes for celebration but are advised to be much more detail-oriented and to digest the whole picture before making major decisions.
Ox
Contrary to the rat, oxen are considered to have a less lucky year in 2017, but don’t have too worry too much as 2017’s drawbacks won’t be too worrisome. An Achievement Star is in their charts, which means oxen can expect a notable accomplishment for the year but have to know that the accomplishment comes with a price. Making sure to nurture current relationships is also a reminder.
Tiger
Tigers will be notably luckier with finances this year! Projects will also be blessed with more progress.
Rabbit
Princess says that although rabbits are in conflict with the rooster, they won’t have to hop around in too much worry as long as they approach major decisions with a conservative attitude. 2017 will present many challenges but rabbits will be able to overcome them if they guard themselves against complacency and taking things for granted. It’s also best for rabbits to spend their money on things that are of value. Rabbits are strongly advised to avoid wakes and funerals, and instead attend more joyous events to absorb more positive energy. 2017 is the perfect year for rabbits looking to learn a new skill and acquire new knowledge, as 2018 will be their time to shine and show off what they’re made of!
Dragon
Just like the horse, this year is also most favorable for dragons. The sign has all the lucky stars this year: the prosperity, benefactor (helpful individuals in our lives) and collaboration stars. Only a few and minor unlucky stars are in their way. This is the year for dragons to shine!
Snake
Snakes are suggested to keep a low profile this year, as 2017 won’t be as rosy as last year. Snakes must think things through as thoroughly as they can before deciding and acting.
Goat
Goats, be careful what you say; once you say something, it will be close to impossible to take it back. Avoid conflict by steering clear of gossip and backstabbing. On a more positive note, goats have a huge opportunity to achieve what it is they’ve set out to achieve, but only if they go through the process step by step and practice patience — a lot of it.
Monkey
Similar to 2016’s luck for monkeys, health should be their biggest concern. Stress and overwork are big deterrents to the monkey’s fortune this year, and so they are advised to take it easy. They must not sacrifice sleep and take it slow whenever they can. Alternatively, travel prospects will also still be bright this year, so make sure those passports are updated!
Rooster
Contrary to popular belief, when you “run into your year,” it doesn’t always mean you’ve struck gold. Roosters this years have a lot of lucky stars especially when it comes to wealth and career, but relationships and health are predicted to take the back seat. This year, rooster must prioritize opportunities to rejuvenate when tired and burned out. They’re also advised to avoid funerals and wakes as well.
Dog
The dog can happily expect someone in a high and powerful position to back him up and support him during the year. There’s a great job potential coming their way in the form of a promotion, raise or change of role. On the other hand, dogs must be wary of being too emotional and getting carried away by emotions. When emotions get overwhelming, a change of environment or a day trip to get away from the stressor is the cure.
Pig
People born in the Year of the Pig will have a challenging year ahead. It won’t be easy, and according to Princess, the best way to counter the burdens lying ahead is to travel a lot more. Staying in one place will make it easy for negative energy and unlucky stars to “gang up on you,” and so moving around will allow these people to shake off bad luck more easily.
