A labor of love

It was in 2020 when Conti’s discovered an influx of people buying cakes. Despite the pandemic, cake has proved to be essential in celebrating big or small wins. The quarantine restrictions made the production of cakes a challenge, and the stores had to put in measures to make sure everyone gets their cake.

Due to the quarantine restrictions, more people relied on “pasabuys” to get their orders. Conti’s saw several individuals buying five, 10, or more cakes at a time. The bakeshop management was wary at first, afraid that they may not be able to maintain the cake’s quality as they deliver it to their clients. But Conti’s is not one to stop these people from bringing delight to their fellow. So, the brand taught them how to care for the cakes during transport and let them deliver delight to more Filipinos.

BA, an Architect by profession, lost clients of his construction business during the pandemic. From Quezon Province, BA would buy Conti’s cakes for his relatives and neighbors. What used to be a personal errand run has become a living. BA relates that becoming a Conti’s Delight Shopper has helped him tide his family through the difficult time. BA’s earnings from this have helped a lot in paying his monthly obligations, and he has now invested in a freezer to accommodate his clients and preserve the quality of the Conti’s products.

Like BA, Jessa, a lady guard in one of the malls in Pasig, was severely hit by the pandemic due to reduced working hours. To make ends meet, Jessa also thought of being part of Conti’s Delight Shopper. In difficult times, bringing delight while earning is truly a blessing.

BA and Jessa are among the many displaced workers seeking ways to survive. Being part of the growing network of Conti’s Delight Shoppers has proven their resiliency amidst these trying times.
