Ascott Makati celebrates as it achieves EDGE green building certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) which is a member of the World Bank Group – a global recognition since Ascott is the first to receive such distinction in the service residence category of EDGE.

EDGE is an innovative green building certification system that helps reduce a building’s energy and water consumption and decrease greenhouse-gas emissions, which in turn drives operational efficiency and reduces environmental impacts.

Ascott Makati reflects the aspirations of its guests’ commitment to sustainability. With the property’s attainment of EDGE’s minimum standard of a 20 percent reduction in the use of energy, water, and the energy that goes into making the construction materials, the certification creates an opportunity for high-performing urban dwellings.

There are unique operational requirements and building elements for serviced residences which affect consumption patterns. The serviced residence category of EDGE ensures an accurate benchmark against which properties can be measured and awarded.

“Our commitment to EDGE is an acknowledgment of the premium we bring to our guests through sustainable practices,” says Philip Barnes, The Ascott Limited Philippines’ area head for Luzon. “Ascott Makati’s EDGE certification will pave the way for more properties to be certified under this international green benchmark that has great potential for the serviced residence industry. EDGE certification is a great beginning to our partnership with IFC, which includes expanding research and implementing the sustainable design of serviced residences in emerging regions,” he adds.

With increasing global demand by corporate clients for properties with green features, the obtaining of EDGE certification status by Ascott Makati is a game changer in the industry.
