The COVID-19 pandemic may be winding down but not the importance it has assigned to timely and reliable testing, which is usually the first step in dealing with the virus. Among the new players that invested in the new medical enterprise is Be Safe MD Inc.
Knowing that proper testing — whether RT-PCR, antigen or rapid — is imperative in identifying cases and eventually, quelling the pandemic, a group of doctors and entrepreneurs ventured into unfamiliar territory and opened a molecular laboratory for COVID-19 testing in June 2020. “Our goal is to provide sustainable healthcare, which is safe, reliable, accessible and affordable medical services in this time of pandemic,” says Dr. Isa Soriano, vice president of Be Safe MD.
Formerly known as Be Safe MD Medical Clinic and Laboratory, the facility offers home-service (point-of-care) flu vaccinations and home consultations, with the help of its team of doctors and other medical professionals. Soriano points out that educating patients and offering them available vaccines that prevent the most common causes of death among COVID-19 patients was of utter importance, especially in the beginning of the outbreak.
With new medical information available, the clinic, in partnership with other molecular laboratories, started focusing on home-service Antigen and RT-PCR Swab Testing in September 2020. Guided by doctors, patients became more aware of the importance of incubation periods, mass testing, and minimum health standard protocols.
“We made things more affordable and accessible by establishing hassle-free drive thru-testings throughout Luzon under three brands: Drive to Swab, Swab and Go and Swab Station, with our flagship branch in 108 Kamuning, Quezon City. We increased our sites and manpower as the need for testing increased due to the gradual reopening of the economy,” Soriano added.
The company reached a new milestone in October 2021 when it established its first molecular laboratory in Libis-Acropolis, Quezon City. To date, it has a total of 20 drive-thru remote swab collection areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas, as well as home-service teams in the NCR.
“In achieving our goal, we constantly innovate and diversify our medical services. We recently opened the Be Safe MD Diagnostics, our secondary laboratory, and will open the medical clinics and pharmacy by the end of the year. Our Be Safe MD Brand hopes to create changes suited for everyone’s changing medical needs,” Soriano adds.
The newly opened Medical Diagnostics, for instance, will offer X-Ray, 2D Echo, blood test, drug test, dengue test, and Annual Physical Exam (APE) as well as specialty doctor’s clinics for complete medical check-up, Ob-Gyne, pediatric, and internal and general medicine. Accredited by the Department of Health, it aims to be the complete health care partner as the country shifts from COVID-19 response to general health and treatment of common ailments.
