The Hollywood heartthrob, best known for bringing Marvel’s Capt. America to life, says he simply “can’t wait” to visit the Philippines!
“I can’t wait to get out there. I can’t wait to visit for nothing but amazing things. And this partnership only makes me that much more excited to come and say hi,” said the 39-year-old actor in an online interview with select members of the Philippine media.
“I’ve heard great things. Great beaches! I’ve heard that today, actually. I heard great food. Wonderful people. I mean every time I am in any sort of Asian territory it’s always hard to leave because it is incredibly welcoming and aesthetically beautiful so I am eager to visit,” added Chris.
Smart Communications’ president and CEO Alfredo Panlilio said that he and his team had invited Evans to come visit, as soon as possible. “”When I had a conversation with Chris, I invited him to come to the Philippines and visit the islands. We can bring him to Amanpulo. Hopefully, when travel restrictions are lifted, we’d love for him to come to the country and visit us,” shared Panlilio.
Captain ‘Advocacy‘
Much like the giant telco’s latest initiative, Chris also shared that he aims to inspire people to commit to sustainable actions with a lasting, positive impact on society. In fact, he launched a civic engagement platform last year called “A Starting Point (ASP),” together with Mark Kassen and Joe Kiani.
According to Chris, ASP was born out of recognizing that we’re living in an age where misinformation is rampant; and where it’s tough to have a political discussion with people because they rely on their own set of facts and information.
“It felt like the most intuitive way to rage against that would be by getting the information from elected officials directly from themselves to the electorate. So, we at least have an understanding of when the people in the office are and what they believe,” Chris tells PeopleAsia editor-in-chief Joanne Rae Ramirez during the virtual press conference held earlier today.
As the face of Smart’s “Live Smarter for a Better World” Campaign, Chris also shared his thoughts on how one could help turn such an idea into reality. “We’ll start with getting people to read more. And just, I suppose slow down a little bit. I think the ability to kind of slow down and take time with the little things whether it’s brushing your teeth or cooking breakfast, just remember to be in yourself and be still every now and then pays itself back in enormous ways.”
World-class partnership
Like Chris, Smart has been known to support and promote various causes by empowering Filipinos with simple and easy access to cutting-edge technology. The same can be said of its “Live Smarter for a Better World” campaign.
Aside from the aspirational tone of its new campaign, and Chris’ star power, Smart also partnered with the star to “elevate the brand” on the global stage.
“Our brand promise is amazing experiences, different fashions, through technology Made Simple by smart. And that promise is encapsulated in the ‘Simple, Smart Ako’ tagline,” shared Lloyd Manaloto, first vice president for corporate marketing and strategy of Smart. “My friends have been telling me that when they hear that tagline spoken by an endorser, it gives them goosebumps.”
On Chris’ part, he described his partnership with Smart as a “good fit.” “I’ve always liked the idea of working with a company in the Philippines. It’s a great part of the world and Smart felt like a very forward-thinking company so it felt like a good fit,” he said.
