Cradles of faith and motherhood

“Artist on a Mission” Kristine Lim recently launched her third art installation in Intramuros. Titled “Ugoy,” the visual and audio exhibit features 18 cradle nests at the Fort Santiago grounds. It is open to the public during the entire month of May.

Visual artist Kristine Lim recently paid tribute to all mothers with her third art installation in Intramuros, Manila. Dubbed as “Ugoy,” the artworks are both a mirror to Kristine’s faith and her being a mother herself. It symbolizes the undeniable love and care of mothers who are willing to do everything for their children.

Mounting the art installation in time for Mother’s Day and the election season, the “Artist on a Mission” made 18 eye-catching cradle nests that now grace the grounds of Intramuros. To give the public a more moving experience, musician Jonathan Manalo, creative director of ABS-CBN Music, composed a song to go with the outdoor display, which is open for public viewing during the entire month of May.

During the formal artist reception at the main plaza of Intramuros, Kristine also took the opportunity to honor one of her mentors and dear friend, who was also one of her special guests during the said event, Dr. Samie Lim.

Apart from being acknowledged as the “father of franchising” in our country, Samie also institutionalized Mother’s Day celebration in the Philippines. Kristine expressed her admiration and gratitude to Lim by gifting him with three mother and child-themed paintings.

A metal sculpture by Kristine was also forged and presented to him. With her during the turnover were owner and managing director of Art Lounge Manila, Susanne Tiausas, and Samie’s longtime friends and colleagues: Bing Limjoco, Sheril R. Quintana and Yvette Pardo-Orbeta. Also present were friends from Department of Tourism, It’s More Fun in the Philippines, Intramuros Administration, Art Lounge Manila, Philippine Franchise Association, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, I Love Mom Movement, Sustainable PH, Christian Collective, Artists on a Mission Workshops, OM Philippines and AOR Global.

“I’m very amazed. This is one of the biggest thank yous that I’ve ever gotten. That’s why, it’s probably the first speech I ever wrote,” said Samie. He also commended Kristine saying, “Every year, I try to find 100 ways to honor moms; but in this very innovative art exhibit, I believe I found 100+1 ways to make moms smile. These are meaningful artworks that depict the unconditional love of a mother for her child.”
