Fall in love with FOX+ fall TV series releases

September is a lot like Christmas for many people who watch American TV series. Fall TV heralds the debut of exciting new shows and the return of favorites.

FOX+ is a video-streaming service that offers not just access to thousands of hours of HD content from Hollywood blockbusters, inspiring documentaries and live sports, but also to the latest episodes of hit shows as soon as they air in the US.

This September, FOX+ offers a solid lineup of same-day-as-the-US TV shows for subscribers:

The ninth season of “The Walking Dead” promises a whole new ball game, especially with Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes exiting midway in the season. While this may be a huge shock to fans who have been following the post-zombie apocalypse drama since the beginning, it could also mean new storylines from other characters’ perspectives. Also, there is an intriguing storyline with new villains called The Whisperers having been hinted at for this season.  (Releases on October 7 , 11:30 a.m.)

American Horror Story

“American Horror Story: Apocalypse” promises to be a doozy. Season 8 of the groundbreaking horror series is set in the future, “18 months from today,” as creator Ryan Murphy said in April. There have been a lot of rumors that have built up about this season, but for sure, fans can look forward to seeing their favorite actors come back to play their part in the horror story. Stars from previous seasons Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Jessica Lange will be back, joined by the iconic Dame Joan Collins of “Dynasty” fame. (New episodes every Wednesday, 12 p.m.)

Modern Family Season 10

The tenth season of “Modern Family,” have teased that there will be a death of a “significant character,” and it has its fans in a panic as speculations abound on who will it be. Of course, series creator Christopher Lloyd is not revealing anything, including if it’ll be one of the main family members. Whatever happens, we can look forward to more laughs and, yes, tears from the adventures of the Dunphy family. (FOX+ exclusive, new episodes every Wednesday, 12 p.m.)

“Fresh Off the Boat” is another returning fan-favorite. The only running sitcom to star an Asian-American family is still going strong. Season 5 will see a new Asian-American family moving into the neighborhood featuring Ming-Na Wen (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) as the matriarch of the family. This should be an interesting and hilarious addition to the Huang’s predominantly white neighborhood in Orlando, Florida. (FOX+ exclusive, releases on October 6, 12 p.m.)

The Resident Season 2

The two hit medical dramas “The Resident” and “The Good Doctor” are returning for their second season as well. “The Resident,” starring Matt Czuchry (“The Good Wife” and “Gilmore Girls”), Bruce Greenwood (“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” and “Mad Men”), and Emily VanCamp (“Revenge”) peels back the curtain and reveals what happens behind-the-scenes in a hospital, be it good or bad.  Chastain Park Memorial Hospital will see a new face walking down its halls as Jenna Dewan (“World of Dance”) is set to have a recurring role at the show this season. (FOX+ exclusive, new episodes every Tuesday, 12 p.m.)

Meanwhile, in “The Good Doctor,” Freddie Highmore returns as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a brilliant surgeon with autism, for a second season after a record-breaking freshman year. New challenges face Dr. Murphy when his mentor and guardian, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), undergoes treatment for his brain cancer. Lisa Edelstein, best known for her role in another hit medical drama “House,” joins the cast as an expert oncologist who will be treating Dr. Glassman’s cancer. (New episodes every Monday, 12 p.m.)

“9-1-1” comes back with its second season. The hit procedural drama starring Angela Basset as patrol sergeant Athena Grant, follows the lives of Los Angeles first responders — the police, paramedics, firefighters and dispatchers — as they face various kinds of emergencies. Last season’s call-center operator Abby, played by Connie Britton, will be not be coming back as a series regular and will be replaced by Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie. The season 2 trailer hints that a huge earthquake will set off a series of emergencies for the first responders to face. (New episodes every Monday, 12 p.m.)

The superhero series “The Gifted,” based on Marvel Comics X-Men universe, is back for its second season, as the stakes are raised and more is revealed about the 7/15 incident that led to the anti-mutant policy and sentiment. The Morlocks will also be coming to the fore this season, with an exploration that perhaps the so-called bad guys may be right all along. Expect new characters as the world gets bigger for the mutants. (New episodes every Wednesday, 12 p.m.)

It’s not all just returning shows on FOX+, there are three new series to stream: “New Amsterdam,” “A Million Little Things” and “A Discovery of Witches”

(New episodes every Wednesday at 12pm)

“A Million Little Things” is about the friendship between four men in Boston who formed a bond when they got stuck in an elevator together. A decade later, all four are at different levels of success, yet all feel stuck in life — until one of them killed himself, jarring everybody else’s lives in the aftermath. Starring Ron Livingston (“Friday Night Lights”), James Roday (“Psych”), Romany Malco (“Weeds”) and David Guintoli (“Grimm”). (New episodes every Thursday, 12 p.m.)
