Witnessing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA)  at the Batasang Pambansa for the first time as a guest was truly memorable. The preparation that each attendee undertakes, from choosing her dress to grooming, just to walk the red carpet, makes it a remarkable event.

This leads one to ask. Why exactly do people dress up for SONA? If you ask me, it is not merely a fashion show or a quest for superficial allure, but rather an ode to history and a tribute to the importance of this momentous occasion. Attending the SONA means contributing to the narrative of the nation’s progress, where fashion becomes a language of its own. Each ensemble tells a unique story of its wearer, representing different regions, cultures, and advocacies. It is a symphony of stories, a tapestry woven with threads of dedication, heritage and unyielding preparation.

Behind each exquisite gown, elegant baro’t saya and dashing barong lies an intricate process of preparation. Designers invest countless hours infusing their creations with Filipino artistry. Guests embark on a journey of self-discovery, choosing an outfit that embodies their vision for the nation.

Through this tapestry of fashion, we pay homage to the nation’s diverse heritage, fortitude and aspirations. Join us in a world where elegance intertwines with history, where each carefully chosen garment becomes a brushstroke in the portrait of a nation, and where the essence of the Filipino spirit shines brightly for all to see.
