Grand Hyatt Manila Brewfest: Moves like ‘Lager’

By Hermes Joy Tunac

Even before the rise of Korean barbecue or “samgyeopsal” in the country, Filipinos have already established their love for grilling meats, especially pork and chicken, when there is a special occasion or simply get-together.

To pair Filipino’s love for barbecue with a distinct beer, the Grand Hyatt Manila kicks off the merry month of October with a preview of its upcoming Brewfest, which will be held from Oct. 5 to 19, 2018. The brewfest also marks the formal introduction of the hotel’s very own brew, the Grand Hyatt Manila House Lager. The refreshing, slightly sweet and crisp beer is easy to drink, and comes with a distinct aroma of floral notes, following a rounded malt finish.

In an exclusive interview with PeopleAsia, Mr. Daniel Ganser, Grand Hyatt Manila’s Director of Food and Beverage, talks about highlighting Filipino craftmanship.

PeopleAsia: How does the idea of Brewfest came about?

Daniel Ganser: Even before Engkanto Brewery launched in the Philippines, Ian Paradies, founder of Engkanto Brewery, and I already started our partnership by making the House Lager. Our core philosophy is giving back to the community and highlighting craftmanship in the Philippines. Instead of doing what everybody else does, we just created our own beer with a very passionate team to collaborate with.

PA: Aside from the House Lager, will you be serving other drinks during the Brewfest?

DG: Engkanto beers will also serve their signature Pale Ale, Double IP, Blonde Ale, and IPA.

PA: What are the varieties in the barbecue feast?

DG: Every Filipino likes barbecue and I’m sure that they will enjoy what we have here at the Grand Hyatt. Prepared by the hotel’s culinary experts and led by Executive Chef Mark Hagan, we serve fresh off the grill BBQ ribs, grilled stuffed squid, sausages, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, salads and more.

PA: What sets Brewfest apart from other celebrations this October?

DG: Our pool house is very cozy, to begin with. The goal is for you to relax with a glass of a good cold beer, barbecue feast on the side, while you watch the sunset. There is also a live DJ entertainment and interactive beer games.
