My excitement was palpable as I packed my bags and headed to the airport for my first trip to Davao to attend the annual Davao Food and Wine Festival. With Dusit Thani Lubi Plantation Resort hosting the festival’s opening, I had the privilege of staying and indulging myself in the ultimate luxury the island resort has to offer.
Located in Davao de Oro, 40 minutes away from Dusit Thani Residence Davao via high-speed Catamaran, the resort is an island paradise in the heart of the Davao Gulf. A slight flight delay couldn’t dampen my spirits as I was greeted by the gracious Karl Jeremiah of Dusit Thani Davao after landing at Davao International Airport that morning. One can choose between the high-speed boat ride or the one-hour scenic drive through lush banana and coconut plantations that we took to reach the isolated haven.

An hour later, we finally reached the Mabini Welcome Center and boarded a private speedboat that took us a mere 15 minutes to reach the island. The trip was worth it, as this stunning resort seamlessly blends British colonial architecture with the island’s breathtaking tropical beauty.
Upon arrival a little past noon, I was warmly welcomed by several hotel staff with a beautiful local song coupled with a refreshing drink and a cold towel. At the Tarictic Grill, I enjoyed a late yet delightful lunch of Filipino favorites like kare-kare (oxtail in peanut sauce) and chicken inasal (grilled chicken), while overlooking the breathtaking beachfront.
If you’re craving for some Thai fare, you can also savor the flavors of Thailand at Ga-Ti Thai Restaurant. Indulge in authentic Thai cuisine, featuring signature specials that capture the essence of Thai culinary traditions.
As evening takes over, you can also savor delicious bar chows, craft beer and cocktails at The Mill. This modern restaurant and bar also offers a variety of indoor fun and games, making it the perfect place to relax and socialize. While prices are higher than typical restaurants, the quality and ambiance of a luxury resort justify the cost.
Following a seamless check-in at the Salapati Resort Center just across the Tarictic Grill, I was whisked away to my deluxe room with a garden balcony in the West Villas.

My room offered all the modern-day conveniences, including high-speed internet, a spacious work desk and a premium JBL sound system with Bluetooth connectivity. Stocked daily with complimentary coffee, tea, and bottled water, a Nespresso coffee machine was also available for my convenience.
