Hotelier-turned-part-time artist “moves forward” with newest exhibit at Conrad Manila

The collection, which is part of the hotel’s “Of Art and Wine” series, is all about Michael Sagaran’s love for iconic cars and their evolution over the decades. But it could very be also a metaphor for people’s resiliency and ability to cope and move forward with their disrupted lives.

Conrad Manila recently launched the 20th edition of its “Of Art and Wine” art exhibit, this time featuring “Moving Forward” by Michael Anthony Sagaran, at Gallery C. The ongoing exhibit runs until October 22.

“Our commitment in championing local artists and artistry continues as the world heals and recovers as one from the many challenges of the recent years,” said Linda Pecoraro, the hotel’s outgoing general manager. “This exhibit, aptly titled ‘Moving Forward’ embodies Conrad Manila’s optimistic outlook in sharing the light and warmth of hospitality with our guests complemented by inspired touches of luxury.”

Sagaran, a former hotelier and public relations professional, revisits his roots as a promising art major mentored by some of the industry’s best. “Moving Forward” is an exhibit of acrylic paintings of various modes of transportation, which is not “just a metaphor for everybody’s aspiration to ‘fast forward’ to a new normal in life, but an urge as well to move on by whatever means,” he said.

His collection of paintings of iconic cars, scooters and motorcycles, including the Ford Model T, “Batmobile,” the Sarao Jeepney and Volkswagen Beetle, executed in vivid colors, is a celebration of vibrancy of life after the grimness of the pandemic lockdowns.

“Of Art and Wine: Moving Forward,” in partnership with The Artisan Cellars, is on exhibit for purchase until October 22. The changing exhibits at the hotel’s Gallery C bring the classic features of wine and art that celebrates life and culture.
