The long wait is finally over. Crash Landing on You stars (and real-life sweethearts) Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin are together for Valentine’s Day, thanks to Smart Telecommunications recently released ad.
Smart made Valentine’s Day extra special for its subscribers and CLOY fans with the release today of a one-minute commercial featuring Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin.
In the ad, the two can be seen racing in a sports car and motorcycle, respectively, before going their separate ways and eventually ending up outside a futuristic building.
“What do you do when your desire is beyond reach,” Ye-jin asks, as the two stars search for each other inside the huge venue. To which boyfriend Bin, amidst a backdrop of images of Smart’s awesome reach and capabilities, answers: “You use power that breaks barriers.”
The sleek ad then virtually transports the two stars to places beyond the actual venue, from Paris to the Egyptian pyramids and the Swiss Alps.
“Speed at the palm of your hands through Giga Life,” Bin continues.
“Now in 5G,” Ye-jin then declares, as she seals Smart’s message.
And, in a penultimate scene that’s loaded with layers of meaning designed to titillate fans, Bin asks, as the two finally catch up with each other face to face, “Do you believe this is possible?” Without batting an eyelash, Ye-jin replies, “I do.”
“How do you know,” Bin counters. Ye-jin, instead of answering, simply breaks into her signature giggle before affectionally thumping Bin’s chest. The lovers, shifting to Filipino, conclude the commercial together: “Simple, Smart ako.”
Rumors of a joint commercial has been circulating ever since Smart launched Hyun Bin as its Giga Life brand ambassador in 2020, after Smart president and chief revenue officer Al Panlilio hinted that “Capt. Ri (Bin’s character in CLOY) would be lonely if he’s alone.”
Bin and Ye-Jin, who graced succeeding covers of PeopleAsia’s sold-out issues last year, first appeared in their respective solo adds for Smart in 2020. At the height of the lockdown last May, a dashing Bin made countless fans swoon and forget their worries, as his Smart ad featuring him driving a sports car debuted on TV.
It was Ye-Jin’s turn to bring smiles and spark hope among fans in August, as she debuted with her own TV ad for Smart. This time, the pretty actress was filmed zipping through the streets of Seoul on a Ducati motorcycle.
The buzz about their real-life romance reached a fever pitch in January, when an article published in LoveKPop95, said “Specifically, fans discovered that Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin’s own stylists checked in at a location in Songdo New Urban Area, Incheon Korea. In particular, it was revealed that the above location is where Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin were present to film an advertisement for a Philippine electronic brand that the two represented.”
Fans of the two stars were again abuzz with excitement less than a week ago, as Smart uploaded a 10-second teaser on Twitter captioned “Our biggest Valentine’s surprise is about to unfold. See you? #SimpleSmartAko #InSmartWeTrust.”
The teaser featured a motorcycle-riding person wearing a helmet and zooming past a black sports car. The car’s driver, a man whose back was turned against the camera, later alights from his vehicle, as he tries to rendezvous with the mystery motorcyclist.
BinJin fans are smiling from ear to ear, as everyone’s speculations have been confirmed when Smart finally made its big reveal today. In less than an hour since the ad’s debut, the telco giant’s latest coup has already garnered 110,000 views.
