Kathryn Bernardo on being named as one of PeopleAsia’s “People of The Year” 2020 awardees

Soon after PeopleAsia revealed it latest list of “People of The Year” awardees, Kathryn Bernardo immediately expressed her gratitude for being named as one, along with 15 other movers and shakers in Philippine society.

“Somebody pinch me… Is this even for real?!,” Kathryn says in an Instagram post.

Why did she deserve to be one? The reasons are plenty.

The How’s of Us, Kathryn’s latest film with real-life partner Daniel Padilla, was once considered the highest-grossing film in local movie history with P805 million in revenues. But in 2019, Kathryn outdid herself by helping generate a record-breaking P881-million in box office receipts for Hello, Love, Goodbye, her first-ever film with Alden Richards. Within a span of only a few months, the 23-year-old actress achieved two significant victories at the box office—the first local celebrity, male or female, to ever star in back-to-back top-grossing films. And with these achievements, Kathryn earned another title to her name—one of PeopleAsia’s “People of The Year” 2020.

“Ending 2019 with nothing but a grateful heart. Thank you, PeopleAsia, for including me in your list! I am honored to be featured alongside these inspiring people who continue to make a difference,” adds Kath on the same post.

Aside from Kathryn, the other “People of the Year” 2020 awardees are Megaworld Corporation’s Andrew Tan, Sta. Elena Construction Corp.’s Alice Eduardo, Department of Tourism – Philippines Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat, Sen. Sonny Angara, international star Lea Salonga, Henann Group of Resorts Chairman Dr. Henry Chusuey, AirAsia’s Sheila Romero, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, Dr. Vicki Belo, Okada Manila’s Takashi Oya, Richprime Global Inc.’s Myrna Yao, Dubai-based fashion designer Michael Cinco and Chef Jessie Sincioco. Also being honored with a “Max V. Soliven Lifetime Achievement Awardee” (posthumous) is the venerable Philippine STAR Founding Chairman Betty Go Belmonte and Manila Mayor and People’s Choice Awardee Isko Moreno Domagoso.

PeopleAsia will formally present the awards to the People of The Year 2020 awardees early next year.
