To this day, the most common menstrual products such as napkins and tampons are still disposable. They contain about 90 percent plastic, which only means that every woman’s period can have an enormous environmental toll. In 2015 alone, the Ocean Conservancy collected over 30,000 used tampons and applicators on beaches worldwide in a single day.
But, what if I told you that there is another alternative to make your period eco-friendly? Let me introduce you to Nala Woman.
Nala Woman is a local sanitary brand with a mission of taking feminine care a little more seriously and sustainably. Founded by siblings, Aiai and Paby Garcia, Nala Woman prides itself as an organic period-care brand that puts women’s health first.
“We designed Nala Woman with the need for a simplified lifestyle in mind to help make the switch easier. Our products were sourced with you in mind and give you access to better period care products you’ve been searching for,” says Nala Woman founder Aiai Garcia.
From sanitary pads to liners, each product is made from hypoallergenic organic cotton, biodegradable back sheet film and uses corn-starch biodegradable individual wrappers.
“Our goal is to tackle the ways traditional period products have disadvantaged us through the years. We want to ensure it’s as easy as possible for women to have access to sustainable
period care,” Aiai adds.
The brand hosts a Period Party IGTV series on Instagram dedicated to women’s intimate wellbeing and fighting the stigma surrounding menstruation. Additionally, the brand also has a campaign dubbed as ‘Pledge A Pad,’ aiming to end period poverty by providing eco-friendly napkins to Filipinos who don’t have access to these necessities.
