Six weeks after she made a surprise appearance at the 25th anniversary of PeopleAsia, which also coincided with the magazine’s annual People of the Year (POY) awards, an ailing Kris Aquino posted the latest update on her health in her Instagram account @krisaquino.

Kris wrote in her latest post she uploaded 14 hours ago: “This is my NOW…i wanted you to see the pain and struggles so that you will continue to pray. I have a Lupus Flare fever now. It’s been more than two weeks.”

Accompanied by Norah Jone’s rendition of The Beatles classic “Let it Be,” the post features a five-minute montage of short videos and still photos of a gaunt Kris, receiving care at home from her doctors, caregivers and immediate family members, including second son Bimby.

Some of the photos and videos in the montage also show the extent of how bony Kris’ arms and legs have become as she gingerly walks in her bedroom and tries to lie down in bed. Despite the video’s bleak tone, the post also features still shots of a smiling Kris receiving treatment from her doctors and caregivers.

Dubbed by local showbiz as the “Queen of all Media,” Kris has been battling a series of life-threatening health issues, including lupus, as early as 2017. In a press conference the following year, she revealed to fans that she was battling a “form of lupus” and that she was allergic to most medicines needed to manage the symptoms.

The condition has left her weak and caused her to lose a great deal of weight. After seeking treatment in the US for two years, Kris decided to return to the Philippines in September last year.

Kris, whose life has been an open book ever since she entered showbiz during the presidency of her mother, the late democracy icon Corazon C. Aquino, has been saying to the world, mainly through her Instagram account, that despite her declining health, she continues to fight and draw strength from her two sons, Josh and Bimby.

Her ill health notwithstanding, Kris has remained good copy all these years. When she decided to grace the PeopleAsia event at Fairmont Hotel’s grand ballroom last February 25 to show her support for designer and good friend Michael Leyva, one of this year’s POY awardees, reporters present had a field day snapping photos and getting brief video footage and soundbites from her.
