If you’ve been on social media since the start of the enhanced community quarantine, you probably have a friend or two who’ve been sharing images of the frothy drink dubbed as “Dalgona Coffee.” Some have probably even gone one step further, posting their DIY videos on how to concoct the perfect blend.

The recipe first circulated on TikTok, a social media app for short-form mobile videos, and is said to originate from South Korea, where the Korean sugar sponge candy called Dalgona gained fame as a dessert. And, yes, you guessed it, the famous frothy drink was derived from the Korean dessert!

First, mix a ratio of 1:0.5:1 (tbsp.) of black coffee, sugar and hot water. Some people prefer to put 1 tbsp of sugar. But if you’re aiming for a healthier option, half a spoon will do.

Mix them together and whisk for 10-15 minutes until the mixture turns gooey.

Once the concoction reaches the same consistency as the one above, you can now spoon it on top half a glass (or more, depending on how you prefer it) of soy milk.
