Longchamp unveils Fall-Winter 2018 collection in exclusive media preview

World-renowned for its leather goods, footwear and high-end women’s ready-to-wear apparel, Longchamp has designed a casual yet sophisticated collection for Fall-Winter 2018 for the modern, independent and cosmopolitan woman who appreciates French luxury.

Inspiration

The Fall collection is inspired by the Parisian woman with self-assured elegance and natural charm1. Anemones and butterflies were also sources of inspiration for the motifs: the anemone is the most Parisian of flowers and the butterfly with wings spread wide is a Japanese symbol of emerging womanhood.13

Leather Goods

The tone of Longchamp’s Fall 2018 collection is set by anemones and butterflies. There’s a mock croc calfskin version of the Le Pliage Héritage decorated with soaring butterflies or a bouquet of anemones.14

The Hypnotic line stylishly dons quilting that ripples out from the embroidered motif like endless waves. This workmanship also appears on an edgy evening clutch and a square black lambskin bag with a metal chain.

The legendary Le Pliage bag goes graphic in canvas printed with a lone bouquet of anemones that seem to create a dot motif.

The Le Pliage Cuir line steps outside of its box with a set of nude and turquoise bags decorated with drawings and words. Le Pliage bags and backpacks, a zippered clutch and other leather goods are tattooed with a butterfly, a dove, a flower and a Love ribbon.5

Materials and Details

Photo-imaged onto canvas or silk, laser engraved or ornately embroidered in colored and metallic thread on leather, Longchamp’s signature material, the anemones and butterflies appear alone, in an all-over motif, in a bouquet or in flight. Lambskin is paired with flowing printed silk, light-catching satin, a jacquard knit or denim canvas to create an unmistakably more laid-back look.17

Colors

Deeper shades of celadon, beige, turquoise, dusty pink, blush, and gray green appear throughout the Fall 2018 collection, creating sophisticated combos that brighten up denim canvas, rich black and pristine white.7

Meanwhile, Longchamp’s Winter 2018 collection is guided by these materials, colors and inspiration.

Inspiration

So who is this liberated woman sitting on top of the world loudly and proudly waving her self-assured grace and natural charm like a flag? She’s the modern-day Amazon woman. Longchamp created its Winter 2018 collection especially for her. Not only is this season’s galloping horse motif inextricably linked to the Amazon woman, it has also been Longchamp’s icon since it was founded in 1948. Horses and everything associated with them stand as symbols of Longchamp’s verve and modern sophistication—and they are the sources of inspiration behind the Winter 2018 wardrobe.10

Leather goods

The Amazone line sets the pace of the Winter 2018 collection. Dressed in fringed suede, the Amazon woman is folksy, but turns graphic when she struts out in unique quilting with a vertical topstitching pattern, then gets sophisticated in the velvet version adorned with this fine black or pine green fabric, interlacing bridle rings and bits embroidered on top, the leather accentuated by a grosgrain ribbon.

The new Alezane family perfectly resonates Longchamp’s bohemian saddlery mindset. The roundness of the bags is accented with three rows of topstitching finished off with metal rivets on the flap. Whether it’s the crossbody, messenger or clutch, they are all crafted from silky smooth lambskin in black, garnet or pumpkin.9

Breaking with convention, Mademoiselle Longchamp gives it a rock ‘n’ roll edge with metal eyelets. A blend of mock croc leather and velvety calfskin join outlandish color pairings with black: plum, olive, pilot blue. Marching to its own drum, this tastefully designed monochrome version is delicately perforated or accessorized with a contrasting leather lace that creates a dainty braid on the pocket and along the handle

Materials and Details

The galloping horse and the interlaced bridle rings and bits are printed on billowy silks, faintly embossed into velvet, and woven or finely tone-on-tone embroidered camouflage-style. On a more graphic note, the bridles almost become stripes.11

The Winter 2018 collection also revolves around leather—a fine material and Longchamp’s signature.

Fur and shearling are paired with flowing printed silk, matte satin, or panne velvet to create an unmistakably more laid-back look.

Colors

Khaki, honey and plum are mellowed out by hues of burgundy, nude, mocha and blush. These sophisticated combos brighten up the deep black, true gray and subtle pilot blue.2
