Makati Shangri-La, Manila welcomes the Year of the Wood Dragon

This year’s Chinese New Year’s celebration is a special one for the premier Makati hotel since it’s the first of its kind since it reopened sometime last year. Trust it to come up with unforgettable surprises and dining packages to ring in the auspicious Dragon year.

Makati Shangri-La, Manila marks its first Chinese New Year since its reopening last year, as it ushers in the auspicious Year of the Wood Dragon with exciting festivities, exquisite dining offers, and fortune favors for the family.

The hotel welcomes the Lunar New Year with a traditional and breathtaking lion and dragon dance performance for its guests on Chinese New Year’s Eve, February 9, at 10:30 p.m. and on Chinese New Year’s Day, February 10, at 12:30 p.m. Both performances will commence at the Hotel Lobby.

Guests can gather their family and friends at Shang Palace and celebrate traditions with a delectable oriental feast. Special Lunar New Year set menus curated by Chef Chan Po Sang, executive Chinese chef, are available from January 29 to February 18. Rate starts at P36,800  for the Harmoney set menu, P46,800 for the Prosperity set menu and P49,800 for the Good Fortune set menu. Diners can indulge in classic signatures such as Braised e-fu noodles with wild mushrooms and black truffles, Braised pork tendon with dried oysters and mushrooms and Yee Sang to bring in favorable blessings for the year ahead. All set menus are good for a table of 10 persons.

Lunar New Year set menu

Nian Gao, also known as tikoy, is a sweet treat made from glutinous rice, flour, potato starch, coconut milk and sugar. Roughly translated, it means “higher year” in Mandarin. The sticky, sweet confection symbolizes family unity, which makes it a popular gift amongst family, friends, and business partners during this season. Makati Shangri-La, Manila’s Nian Gao creations include the prosperity fish and the traditional gold bar. Nian Gao rates start at P2,088  per single box. Not to be missed is the Radish Cake available at P2,888  per single box. These fortune favors are available at the hotel’s main lobby from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until February 12.
