Michael Cinco goes on a Roman holiday in his latest collection

For the second year in a row, the Dubai-based Filipino designer is collaborating with The Philippine Legacy, as they recognize deserving individuals while generating funds for the poor via a gala fashion show and dinner event at the Manila Marriott Hotel on December 2.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Their first collaboration was such a hit that people behind The Philippine Legacy, an annual effort to recognize deserving individuals in various fields while generating funds for charity, decided to tap anew internationally acclaimed Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco for the Philippine Legacy Gala this December at the Marriott Manila Hotel.

Just like last year, the event will showcase Cinco’s latest collection after formal dinner and awarding ceremony. Whereas the designer drew inspirations from Madrid and various parts of Spain for his previous collection, this time he is channeling the rich history and culture of Rome to produce his newest showstoppers.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the unique beauty, colors and textures of the ‘Eternal City,’” Cinco said. This time, he is reinterpreting the mosaic tiles and al fresco paintings, among other objects found in Rome, into exquisite fabrics and clothes made exclusively for the show.

Cinco, who flew in from Dubai where he is based, recently gave guests, mostly journalists, a preview of his “The Impalpable Dream of the Eternal City” collection by showcasing two looks at the Balmori function room of The Peninsula Manila.

Organizers, led by Charles Pontier, Archie Tan, and designer Albert Andrada, promises to treat guests to a “night of elegance” while they raise funds for the Philippine Missionari della Fondazione di Carità, Inc., a non-profit organization supporting the Missionaries of Charity in aiding vulnerable communities in the Philippines.

“The success and public demand for Michael Cinco’s showcase at our 2023 gala inspired us to feature him again this year,” said Tan, co-founder and producer of The Philippine Legacy.

“His blend of tradition, innovation, and Philippine artistry resonated deeply with our audience, leading to his return with ‘The Impalpable Dream of Eternal City, Roma.’ Through our partnership with Michael, we aim to increase donations, envisioning a society that treats everyone with dignity, provides essential services to the less fortunate, and celebrates the values of love, compassion, and selflessness,” he added.

For Cinco, participating in the gala is deeply personal. “Showcasing my collection at the Philippine Legacy Gala to help poor families in Manila is profoundly meaningful to me,” he said.

“It goes beyond the honor of presenting my work on a prestigious platform; it is an opportunity to use my craft for a greater cause,” he continued.

The Philippine Legacy has been instrumental in promoting Filipino talent and artistry on a global stage for a meaningful cause. Organizers’ renewed partnership with Cinco highlights their ongoing commitment to supporting and showcasing world-class Filipino designers while helping the community.

Reflecting on the impact of his work, Cinco feels a deep sense of responsibility and fulfillment. “Knowing that my collection can contribute to an initiative that directly aids impoverished families in Manila fills me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment,” he explained.

“Fashion, in this context, becomes a powerful tool for social good, bridging the gap between creativity and compassion. It underscores the responsibility I have as an artist and professional to give back to my community and to use my talent to make a positive impact.”

Andrada, co-producer of The Philippine Legacy, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the synergy between Cinco’s artistry and the gala’s mission. “Michael’s collection elevates Filipino fashion and brings attention to our cause,” he said. “Together with Judith Tan (president and founder) and Charles Pontier (co-founder), who have been instrumental in our organization’s success and ongoing initiatives, Michael’s commitment to using his talent for the greater good aligns perfectly with our mission, showcasing the transformative power of art and generosity.”

The Philippine Legacy Gala will happen on December 2, 2024, at the Marriott Hotel.
