More than just a good, ol’ Nordic-style party

Touted as the biggest Viking party in Asia, Volvo Philippines’ annual Viking Nordic Feast is more than just about merrymaking. It’s a celebration with a noble purpose.

For the fifth year now, Volvo Philippines continues to uphold its promise to care for the underprivileged sector through the annual Viking Nordic Feast, a celebration with the purpose of supporting a greater cause.

Through its local dealer and distributor, Viking Cars Inc., Volvo partnered with the Manila-based Nordic Chamber of Commerce, an association that promotes trade and investment between the Philippines and such Nordic countries as Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland, to raise funds for the Chosen Children Village Foundation–a home for abandoned children with physical and mental disabilities. Held recently at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, the event was graced by some of the metro’s most notable personalities, as well as distinguished guests from all over the world.

Guests enjoyed generous servings of aquavit, schnapps and vodka while jamming along to music from legendary Swedish pop group ABBA. Volvo PH also hosted a game called the Thor’s Hammer Challenge, where the top three guests who lifted and held the hammer the longest won an exclusive gift from Volvo. The game is a nod to the “Thor’s Hammer”—a moniker for Volvo’s recognizable LED headlamps design.

 Of cars and crayfish

Popularly known among the Nordic people as the Crayfish Party, the centuries-old tradition gathers the Danes, Finns, Norwegians and Swedes together in an event filled with a smorgasbord of food and drinks, as well as exceptional entertainment.

Just like in the old days, this year’s soiree offered guests a buffet of Nordic delicacies, including the mouthwatering crayfish prepared with herbs and spices, and served in the traditional Nordic manner, paying homage to Volvo’s origin, which is Sweden. Unbeknownst to many, it is said that the idea behind Volvo was formulated while its founders enjoyed a hearty crayfish lunch. Decades later, the product of that hearty meal, the world-famous Volvo vehicle, continues to traverse roads and transport people to their destinations safely and comfortablely without damaging the environment.– Ma.
