New app dubbed as Libre aims to promote sharing between members

What’s worthless to some may be a piece of treasure, even an answered prayer, to others. It’s all a matter of perspective, and the Libre social media app aims to bridge both “Giver” and “Taker” by facilitating free and honest transactions that are mutually beneficial.

There’s a new social media application in town! And it’s called Libre. As its name implies, it aims to awaken your inner generosity by encouraging you to share your blessings with those in need for free. And it doesn’t require much from you. Something that has outlived its usefulness for one family or individual, for example, can be a treasure to another or even an answered prayer.

When you go home tonight, look around your house. For sure, you will see many items that are no longer in use that are gathering dust or rusting in your storage.

An old stroller outgrown by your baby, a bicycle too small for your son, an old set of Britannica encyclopedia overtaken by Google, vintage but wearable clothes, shoes that have become a bit tight, an analog TV set replaced by a smart TV.

Law, architectural, medical and other reference books that could help struggling students through school, old school bags of no use for your grown-up children, used chairs, desks and tables, old desktops sidelined for laptops and tablets.

An old refrigerator too small for your growing family, sports equipment for a school in some province, used printers and copy machines for financially challenged schools, towels and baby’s clothes for an orphanage, wheelchairs and crutches for the disabled. And the list goes on!

The beauty of Libre is that you can share all these things to those in need. Libre is a social media application that was developed purely for sharing useable items with others. Members can be both “Givers” and “Takers.” There are no commercial transactions involved.

The Giver simply posts the item to be donated and the Taker who wishes to get the item can express his or her interest. Both parties can talk online and in real time, and agree on how the item will get to the Taker via a logistics company of their choice.

For membership terms and conditions, Libre is a social media application where members can give items that they wish to share and where fellow members may take items that could be of use to them.

Membership in Libre is free. This app is not for commercial purposes and shall not involve any sale or purchase transaction.

              For terms and conditions, members may post new or pre-owned, but useable items, which they wish to share with any member who may find value in them. Any member may take items for personal use, but not for resale or for commercial purposes.

Members are prohibited from posting pornographic materials, sex toys, sex objects and similar items, prohibited or regulated drugs, firearms, firearm parts, ammunition and explosives or similar items.

Hazardous materials, bank bills, notes, coins or currencies, alcoholic beverages, chemical or flammable items, fireworks, liquids and similar items, animal products and perishable items are also not allowed.

Libre reserves the right to remove any member who takes items and sells them or use them for commercial purposes. Libre also has the right to remove any posted item which it may deem inappropriate.

Libre shall remove any member for non-compliance with the terms and conditions of this membership agreement and the said member shall not hold Libre, its management, directors, officers, employees and staff legally liable.

It shall be the responsibility of the members (both Givers and Takers) of Libre app to book the delivery or pick up of items via a logistics company of their choice, until such time the Libre app shall have exclusively partnered with a logistics company.

Is this for real or legitimate, or just some form of gimmick?

The question can be answered by our first recipient of a desktop computer, a lady by the name of Belle Quiao from Bacoor, Cavite. Quiao, a member, saw the desktop computer posted in the Libre app and asked to take it.

She texted the Giver online and in real time, and told the person that the desktop was for her grandson for his online classes. At the outset, she asked if Libre was legit. After being convinced, she agreed to have the item picked up via Lalamove. After an hour, the desktop was with her.

What if the Taker just turns the item around and sells it? We will never truly know. Libre’s admin staff closely monitors the site and would greatly appreciate any information of this sort should this happen.

It also relies on the belief that there is inherent good in every individual, and Libre and the people behind it can only hope and pray that everyone will see the beauty of this application and will not use it for personal gain.

Libre presently has three charitable institutions who have happily agreed to be part of the app, namely Tanging Yaman, Seniors Faith Club and Gawad Kalinga.

Posted items could be given to these charitable institutions through Libre’s site and would be duly acknowledged.

As far as folks at Libre are concerned, they believe that the app is the only one of its kind whose objective is to share items that may have outlived its usefulness for some people with families and individuals who may still find good use for them.
