Pinky Tobiano is president of chief animal industry association

One of the industry’s objectives is to harmonize test methods of analysis for veterinary drugs, animal feeds and feed ingredients to help the country’s poultry and livestock industry.

Chemist Pinky Tobiano recently added another feather to her cap when she was inducted as president of the Association of BAI-recognized Laboratories (ABAIL). ABAIL is the only organization formed by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), which is composed of all the associations recognized and accredited by BAI.

The industry’s objective is to harmonize test methods of analysis for veterinary drugs, animal feeds and feed ingredients to help the poultry and livestock industry in the Philippines.

ABAIL secretary Herbert Mendoza of Lipa Quality Control Center (LQCC), ABAIL external vice president Dr. Rhodora Marasigan, United Broiler Raisers’ Association (UBRA) president, lawyer Bobby Inciong, ABAIL internal vice president Yehlen Salilid and ABAIL’s new president, chemist Pinky Tobiano.

ABAIL also helps in the food security and food sustainability through accurate and precise laboratory testing. The association also helps foster friendship and understanding between government and private stakeholders. As the back-end support of all veterinary drug companies, feed millers and feed additive importers, ABAIL also plays an important role in the country’s farm animal industry.

For her part as one of the country’s leading chemists and industry leaders, Tobiano said, “We provide quality control tests to conform with national standards. We make sure our test methods are strictly observed and followed.”

Last February, Tobiano turned over her testing services company, Qualibet, which stands for “Quality is Better,” to global leader Bureau Veritas. But she still retains shares in the homegrown company, which she established and nurtured for several decades.
