PPEs inspired by Teletubbies? Why not?

Adrian Pe, a fashion designer who also happens to be a registered cardiovascular OR nurse, just brightened pockets of the “City of Love” with his fun and colorful protective suits created for Iloilo’s front liners. The first batch of his creations was inspired by Teletubbies, a hit British children’s TV series composed of four multi-colored creatures back in the late ’90s.

In an Instagram post with a caption inspired by Catriona Gray’s winning Miss Universe answer, Adrian said, “I work a lot in the hospital, and the work there is exhausting. And I have always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look in the beauty in the faces of the patients, and to be grateful. And I will bring this aspect as a Nurse-Designer, to see situations with a SILVER LINING. And to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson. And if I can teach people to be grateful, we can have an amazing world where #COVID19 cannot grow and prosper, and children will have smiles on their faces.”

The Teletubbies-themed PPE suits, according to Adrian, wouldn’t have been possible without his fellow nurses from The Medical City Iloilo, who helped him piece the suits together.

“I am thrilled to have colleagues who are very flexible and well-rounded to help me pursue this cause. My fellow health care workers in the OR have spent many days cutting fabrics, making face shields and even sewing PPEs. It seemed like we have transformed some parts of our OR into a PPE production facility,” the 28-year-old Adrian tells PeopleAsia.

"Second batch ready!," Adrian shares on his Instagram post.

As of this writing, Adrian continues to create more batches of PPEs inspired by the Power Rangers and Money Heist on the side, while fulfilling his duties as one of the front liners in Iloilo.
