SMC’s P14-billion SLEX extension project opens

The development is projected to accommodate 200,000 cars per day, both in the northbound and southbound lanes.

President Rodrigo Duterte, together with a number of top government officials as well as San Miguel Corp.  president Ramon Ang, led in the inauguration of the P14-billion South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Elevated Extension project.

Envisioned to ease Metro Manila’s worsening traffic woes, the four-kilometer long, two-lane southbound alignment connects the Skyway in Sucat to SLEX (Sussana Heights exit) in Muntinlupa, bypassing the Alabang viaduct and improving direct access to both the Alabang area and the Alabang-Zapote Road. The development, which soft-opened in December, is projected to accommodate 200,000 cars per day, both in the northbound and southbound lanes.

Ang said that with this development, the company has fully delivered its goal of providing long-term solutions to the worsening traffic along Skyway, SLEX and other public roads leading to and from these major arteries.

“It has provided relief to thousands of motorists who go home every day to Muntinlupa, Las Pinas, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas. With both the southbound and northbound section of the SLEX Extension now fully operational, travel to and from the south is easier and faster than ever,” Ang continued.

President Rodrigo Duterte and San Miguel Corp. president Ramon Ang formally opens SMC’s SLEX extension project.

The project was set for completion by December 2020, but it was pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this setback, SMC had to utilize all its resources to accelerate the construction. This setback, according to Ang, highlighted the role of Filipino engineers, construction workers and contractors who all worked to make the project happen.

Ang expressed gratitude to President Duterte and his “Build Build Build” team, along with Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar and Transportation Sec. Art Tugade, as well as the cooperation shown by other stakeholders, who recognized the project’s importance. He also thanked the public for their patience.

“With this, we can look forward to faster, more efficient travel, transport of goods and improved trade throughout our cities and provinces,” Ang concluded.
