Campari, Italy’s iconic red aperitif, is celebrating Negroni Week for the first time in the Philippines. Set to start on June 24, Negroni Week is poised to take over several partner establishments in Metro Manila for a weeklong celebration aimed at commemorating Negroni’s 100th anniversary as a globally celebrated drink.

Since its launch in 2013, people behind Negroni Week have worked with bars, restaurants, and retailers around the world to raise money for charitable initiatives. Last year, Negroni Week welcomed over 10,000 partner establishments in 87 countries. In total, the event raised an impressive $585,000 for charitable causes, contributing to almost $2 million since 2013.

To introduce Negroni Week to bartenders and drinkers in Metro Manila, Campari’s regional brand ambassador in Southeast Asia, Symphony Loo, conducted a special Negroni Master Class at The Manila Peninsula recently. Bartenders from some of the hottest night spots in Metro Manila attended the masterclass.

The Negroni was created 100 years ago by the renowned Count Camilo Negroniat the Caffé Cassoni in the city of Florence. He gave bartender Fosco Scarselli a task to strengthen his  Americano cocktail. In response, Fosco replaced the traditional soda water and lemon twist with a splash of gin and a slice of orange. And from that moment on, the Negroni was born and  became one of Italy’s widely consumed drinks. In 2018, the Negroni was voted as the second most popular cocktail in the world by Drink International.
