To dream the Impalpable Dreams

Following the success of his first foray into perfumes in 2012, Michael Cinco again collaborates with Bench to create two new scents.

Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco collaborates anew with Bench, as he launches a new line of Impalpable scents. Michael and Ben Chan, head honcho of the Philippine-born global lifestyle brand, first collaborated in 2012 with the release of Impalpable’s first edition.

This time, Michael has created two new variants, which, in a manner of speaking, are also infectious in themselves, called Impalpable Dreams and Impalpable Men. The former scent, like its earlier version, is designed for ladies.

“I decided to stick to Impalpable because it’s one of my favorite words,” he shares with PeopleAsia. “But they’re totally new scents. Owing to the success of our first collaboration, I was approached by Ben to develop new scents in 2019. I personally worked on them, from the scents down to the design of the packaging and bottles.”

Just before the pandemic, Michael, a People of the Year 2020 awardee, flew to Manila to make last-minute approvals. The perfume line was supposed to be launched last year during Bench Fashion Week, but Ben and Michael decided to postpone it because of the lockdown. This time it will be launched in a digital film on April 1 at arabfashioncouncil’s Instagram account.

The perfume line, as Michael imagines it, “is inspired by the mystique of a magical blue lake that beckons from afar, as we delve deeper into the verdant entrails of this jungle called life.”

Like its predecessor scent, Impalpable Dreams and Impalpable Men are aimed at the young market, says Michael, “who are cool, adaptive and creative” individuals.

“But youth and being cool are also a state of mind. In many ways, such traits are, well, impalpable. You can’t instantly touch or comprehend them, but once you see and feel them, you just know,” he says.
