Vico Sotto named as one of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardees

Pasig City Mayor Victor “Vico” Ma. Regis Sotto, the “People’s Choice” awardee in PeopleAsia’s People of the Year 2021, has been named as one of 2020’s Outstanding Young Men awardees by The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Foundation.

Sotto, son of Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, was also one of PeopleAsia magazine’s cover subjects for its December 2020-January 2021 issue.

The annual search for the country’s outstanding young men and women was spearheaded by The Junior International (JC) Philippines, in partnership with TOYM Foundation, Gerry Roxas Foundation and Advantage Management Consulting Philippines Inc.

This year, the search focused on the theme “Pilipino: Tagumpay Natin ang Galing Mo,” which, according to TOYM foundation, aims to recognize exemplary individuals who “have brought service to others, beyond their talent, exuded excellence; beyond their position, shone leadership; and beyond their achievement, have grown greatness.”

After his unconventional response to the COVID-19 crisis, the freshman mayor is being recognized for, among other things, garnering positive feedback, both from Pasig City’s constituents and netizens from all over the Philippines.

Despite being born to TV legends Sotto and Reyes, the personable 30-year-old told PeopleAsia that he tends to shy away from the spotlight and would rather keep a low profile.

This year’s other TOYM awardees include Multisys Technologies Corp. founder and CEO David Almirol Jr., Angkas co-founder George Royeca and National Institutes of Health at the University of the Philippines in Manila director Raymond Sarmiento.
