Visions in Glass at Anya Resort: Beyond sculpture

In his latest effort, legendary glass sculptor Ramon Orlina brings his celebrated pieces outside the four walls of Museo Orlina, enabling collectors and casual followers alike to enjoy the master’s works.

On display at Anya Resort Tagaytay until May 15, Visions in Glass is a vibrant collection of Orlina’s masterpieces, each one strategically displayed at the hotel’s main lobby (aka the Living Room), where they enjoy ample amounts of natural light that reveal their unique dimensions.

General manager Mikkel Arriet believes that the exhibition will appeal to all guests, even those who may not typically consider themselves art enthusiasts. “Much like how we refresh our dining themes to reflect the changing seasons, we embrace a variety of artistic expressions — from local farmers showcasing their honey to captivating contemporary dance performances and live guitar music. This infusion of art and culture creates an atmosphere that truly brings the resort to life,” said Arriett.

Unveiled in an intimate celebration that beautifully blended art, music, and dance last March, Visions in Glass is the first of what Museo Orlina envisions to be a series of traveling exhibitions that share the beauty of Orlina’s works to a wider audience.

The evening began with cocktails, accompanied by the enchanting sounds of a live violinist, setting the tone for an extraordinary affair. Graceful ballerinas from Steps Dance Studio then performed a captivating number before the artworks were finally revealed.

A statement from Museo Orlina shared that each piece was carefully curated for the exhibit both for its striking color and Orlina’s specific techniques for each piece. “All pieces highlight Mr. Orlina’s artistic journey and all, except for one piece, are book pieces,” it further read.

And while the museum wanted to display more pieces for sale, only the pink-colored crystal sculpture titled “You are Sun and I Moon,” was the only one available for buyers, due to the time it takes for the artist to create each piece.

“The pink-colored crystal is an uncommon material that is quite challenging to acquire. Secondly, the patterns Mr. Orlina created on both the front and back of the sculptures created geometric shapes that when one looks closely are in the shape of the sun, with bold rays emanating from the front and the different phases of the moon emanating from the back of the sculpture, accentuated by the alternating patterns of polished and frosted parts of the sculpture. The interplay between the patterns at the front and the back of the sculpture creates a dynamic play of curves and circles,” said a representative of the museum. — By Jose Paolo S. dela Cruz
