This month, Volvo Philippines launches the “Safe Roads by Volvo” program, which aims to promote road safety awareness by partnering with schools to teach children, parents and guardians, as well as people in and around school premises, proper road safety.

For years, Volvo Philippines has been an active advocate for road safety, spearheading projects that educate and inform. Aside from regular news updates, Volvo Philippines has put up pillar decals and murals to share new information on road safety signs and more.

This time, through this project, Volvo Philippines will collaborate with academic institutions and put up multiple visible road and traffic signs around different areas. The program will start with schools around Metro Manila, and with MGC New Life Christian Academy as its first partner.

From Volvo’s three-point safety belt to its “thinking wheels,” the company has always found ways to innovate with regards to car and road safety precautions and procedures. Now, the company is looking to plan for “Vision 2020,” which it calls “one of the most ambitious safety visions in the automotive industry.”

Vision 2020 aims that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo vehicle by the year 2020. This is where the Safe Roads by Volvo program is rooted, to continue its efforts in informing and educating the public about safety on the road.

Volvo’s way of thinking is summarized by the Swedish word, “omtanke,” which means “caring” and “consideration,” but more important, “to think again.” It drives the company forward to find new ways that encourage better behavior among pedestrians and motorists alike for safer roads and, ultimately, saving lives.
