Watch out for the D1 Milano Kodachrome

What does a watch and photographic film have in common? They both capture the essence of time.

The D1 Milano Kodachrome Analog Watch Limited

This is the running theme behind the Kodachrome Analog Watch Limited Edition. Developed by Italian manufacturer D1 Milano under a licensing agreement with Kodak, the new collection beguiled Filipino watch enthusiasts when it was unveiled recently.

Dario Sapallone, CEO and Founder of D1 Milano, joined forces with local fashion photographer Jack Alindahao for the virtual event, where they talked about watches and photography.

Asked if the pandemic affected people’s interest in luxury watches, Sapallone said “While the atmosphere has been challenging, it also highlighted the importance of owning high quality timepieces, especially for members of the younger generation.”

The dashing CEO then added that Kodachrome, which was inspired by the revolutionary “Kodak BrownieHoliday Edition Camera” (1954-1962) fits the bill perfectly. The Kodachrome Analog Watch is named after the first successful colour reversal film introduced by the Eastman Kodak Company in 1935, and aims to draw a connection to the history of vintage cameras and rollers.

The black polycarbonate, in contrast to the red and yellow dial, reflects the playful soul of this world-famous brand.

THROWBACK: It comes with a classic, disposable Kodak camera, too.

Stemming from a fusion between irony and design, this collaboration places a strong focus on attention to detail, as showcased by a unique watch dial that references a camera lens. The watch will also be contained in a logo-engraved aluminium cylinder; an innovation drawn from past film canisters. Each purchase also comes with a disposable KODAK Single Use Camera, featuring customised D1 Milano graphics.

Water resistant for up to five ATM, the Polycarbon timepiece also presents a metal bezel in a black PVD finish, and a 40.5mm diameter case made of polycarbonate material with a soft touch finish. The glass dial of the watch features a convex lens on the date, which is characterised by the lenses of Kodak  Cameras.
