Joy~Nostalg sparks hope with ‘Liter of Light’

Bringing new meaning to tree-lighting ceremonies and the Yuletide season, Joy~Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila partnered with the ‘Liter of Light’ project to kick off its meaningful celebrations.

The premier serviced residences recently shared a jubilant message through its annual Christmas Tree Lighting event, titled “The Joy of Giving.” Living up to the event’s name, Joy~Nostalg, indeed, exemplified the joy of giving by extending hope and happiness to the less fortunate through its partnership with Liter of Light. The movement, led by social entrepreneur Illac Diaz, turns inexpensive, readily available materials into high-quality solar lighting sources for people with limited or no access to electricity.

“This Christmas, our hearts are full as we illuminate lives, celebrating the gift of bringing light, joy, and hope to those in need,” says Odette Huang, general manager of Joy~Nostalg.

Joy~Nostalg began its collaboration with Liter of Light after learning of a nearby community that had no access to electricity. Together, they worked to bring light to these families so that their children could study and thrive in a safe, well-lit environment.

Joy~Nostalg’s associates, aptly named “Heartists,” generously lent their resources to the project and contributed 100 solar lamps to the community. The hotel also reached out to customers, stakeholders, and guests for more contributions. This resulted in another 100 solar lamps, set to be handed out to 100 families during the holiday season.

“We often notice how our city becomes brighter during the festive season, but energy poverty still makes this same spark of Christmas a little harder to see in so many villages,” says Illac Diaz, whose Liter of Light movement has installed more than 350,000 bottle lights in over 15 countries. “With Joy~Nostalg providing solar lamps hand-built by corporate volunteers, these lights will be sure to brighten so many lives this Christmas.”

Joy~Nostalg also teamed up with Nespresso and the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation, Inc. (NVC) for this year’s Christmas celebration, which featured recycled capsules as ornaments in the hotel’s holiday decors. A total of 3,700 Nespresso capsules were recycled into handcrafted decorations by the NVC, an organization that provides proper nutrition for poor children, as well as sustainable livelihood opportunities for their parents. Joy~Nostalg also helped support the livelihood efforts of a small barrio in Antequera, Bohol, by purchasing basket hampers for their season’s fine selection of gifts and goodies.
