Influenced by New York City—a diverse, multilayered hive of cultures, communities, and aesthetics—Kenneth Cole, on its 35th anniversary, introduces “Urban Dimensions,” its seasonal theme for the brand’s new fall 2018 collection for men and women.

Drawing inspiration from the life of the everyday New Yorker, the brand looks to reveal different layers of the urban lifestyle, whether through architecture, transportation, recreation or even within the people themselves.

New Yorkers take pride in their tenacity and ambition. The trends in NYC are often inspired by the art world—multimedia techniques that either include technological elements infused into the work, or by layering two-dimensional pieces with three-dimensional additions that enhance their tactility and sensory impact. This led to the creation of Kenneth Cole’s “Urban Dimensions” theme.

The “Urban Dimensions” motif is all about bringing depth to the surface, from clean collages and illusionary layers to Dynamic Textures. The key details of the season include sweater dressing, winter pastels, toe-to-head leather, cropped pants, stirrup pants for her, duffle bags for him, envelope bags for her, band collars, graphic sweatshirts and tees, mid-calf boots, liquid metallics and overall volume for him and her.

Clean collages

Clean lines and clean seaming are juxtaposed with angled lines, color blocking, and tonal material blocking. There’s also calf hair, patent leather, smooth leathers, tonal rubberized and high shine graphics, and collaged menswear fabrics.

Illusionary layers

Sheer layers play off one another and are placed over embroidery. Chiffon and tulle, structural lace, graphics under layers, printing on pleats, lace etched on leather, and laser cutting all pop up in a major way. Transparency in fabrics and translucent soles are also a big part of this theme.

Dynamic textures

Textures, such as ruching and gathering, crinkled metallic leathers, hairy suedes, modern quilting on textured fabric, printed fur and leather, embossing and debossing and jacquarded velvet are intergral to the theme. There’s also crinkled chiffon, snake for women, croc for men, urban prints on top of exotics and oversize sequins.
