Newest addition to Seiko’s Prospex series pays homage to the Ifugao Rice Terraces

Inspired by this foremost man-made wonder up north, the limited-edition watch wants to be known not only for its exceptional function, but also as a timepiece that aims to preserve this breathtaking site.

Seiko launches its newest limited-edition timepiece. This time, it is inspired by the country’s very own Ifugao Rice Terraces. The development is certainly a first not only for Seiko, but also for one of the crown jewels of Philippine tourism. Dubbed by many as a man-made wonder, the Ifugao Rice Terraces has inspired artists, writers, photographers, and filmmakers over the decades.

With its sweeping views and undulating curves that slope, swerve, and swoop through the perimeter of the corrugated mountain range, the pride of Ifugao parallels the commitment to bring awareness to the conservation of the environment for future generations by Seiko.

Crafted for the brave and on-the-go, Seiko has long championed ingenuity and innovation with its timepieces, thereby challenging and changing global standards. Since launching its first diver’s watch in 1965, the brand has constantly strove to bring greater reliability to both professional and recreational adventure-seekers.

With its long-standing tradition of paying homage to Filipino culture, Seiko has introduced its Philippine Limited Edition Prospex series, a magnificent coming together of time, journey, and legacy. Launched back in 2020 with a design inspired by the Tubbataha Reef, the collection has persisted, alluding to cultural cornerstones such as the Philippine eagle and sunrise.

Carefully designed and inspired by the Ifugao Rice Terraces, the new Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch wants to be known not only for its exceptional function, but also as a timepiece that aims to preserve this breathtaking site.

Realized in its movement (caliber 4R35, automatic with manual winding, a power reserve of approximately 41 hours, and 23 jewels), case (stainless steel and bezel with ceramic display, sapphire crystal with magnifier, anti-reflective coating on inner surface, and LumiBrite on hand, indexes, and bezel), and a water resistance of 200m/660 ft, as well as ridging etched on the face reminiscent of the Ifugao Rice Terraces, the limit seemingly does not exist for this thing of beauty.  Limited to only 1,500 pieces, it’s a gem for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The latest iteration of the Philippine Limited Edition Prospex goes beyond just the tradition of timekeeping. For this endeavor, Seiko partners with Save The Ifugao Terraces Movement (SITMo), the non-stock, non-profit NGO formed by the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement. Extending its help to the preservation and conservation of the Ifugao Rice Terraces, which is in constant threat of deterioration, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the new watch will be donated to the NGO.
