Whisky’s Best Kept Secret, Now in Manila

Recognized as the “Beast of Dufftown,” Mortlach 12, Mortlach 16 and Mortlach 20 Single Malt Scotch Whiskies boast of full-bodied flavors, characterized by their bold taste and rich notes that embody the brand’s equally bold and rich heritage.

Hailing from Scotland’s Speyside region, which is known to produce whiskies with a unique and wide-ranging taste profile, Mortlach earned its reputation as the “Beast of Dufftown” because of its distinct character and spirit. Mortlach’s flavors resulted from an enigmatic distillation process dubbed as “The Way,” which was perfected down to a science by Alexander Cowie.

Alexander oversaw Mortlach’s first spirit distillation, achieved through a unique and intricate process that required him to employ his full scientific acumen. The bold approach through which Mortlach distills its whiskies has remained unchanged since Alexander created and perfected it in 1896.

While their light-bodied taste profile characterizes most Speyside whiskies, Mortlach distinguishes itself with its “thick character spirit,” one that’s dark, complex and imbued with rich notes that are captured in its three different variants.

Mortlach 12 Years Old: The Wee Witchie

This 12-year-old single malt is an ode to The Wee Witchie, the smallest and most vital of Mortlach’s six stills where Mortlach achieved its signature richness. It is deep amber in color with warm to tasty oak tones.

Mortlach 16 Years Old: The Distillers Pride

Like Mortlach 12, Mortlach 16 has a deep amber color. It opens up to the scent of stewed black and orchard fruits, with earthy notes, as well as spice and honeyed sweetness. The first sip reveals Mortlach 16 to be big, deep and quite sweet, which are likened by connoisseurs to toffee, dried apricots and honey.

Mortlach 20 Years Old: Cowies Blue Seal

Mortlach 20 is Alexander’s proudest whisky. Also considered as Mortlach’s best Scotch, it is matured for a minimum of 20 years. Old copper in color, if you bringing a glass of Mortlach 20 to the nose  be prepared to be greeted initially by a dense, rich aroma with earthy notes and a pleasant meaty element not far behind.
